India in Turmoil: A good starter book on internal terror situation in India

Most of the articles and books on internal and external security policies are authored by experts who may not be insiders. While an outsider can give astounding insights and ideas, the insider's story can always enrich them based on ground realities. More so, when the insider has served as a policeman, a senior cop and governing authority in all such states where insurgency, Maoism and terrorism exist.

Ved Marwah's "India in turmoil" explores the history of insurgency/ unrest/ terror in J&K, Punjab, Naxal hit states and NE states. He also illustrates the evolution of these phenomenon, the plight of the locals, the apathy of the govt. machinery and inept police administration which further suffers on account of unimplemented police reforms.

His service record is impeccable and illustrious. He is an IPS officer who has lately served as Governor in Jharkhand, Mizoram, Bihar.

In the book, account of Naxalism is well covered and explained as his stint has been largely with those states that are in RED.

Its a must read, but only a starter (a good one though) for those who wish to understand the basic processes behind the sustenance of insurgency and internal terror in the country. An indispensable book for policy makers and policy students but needs to be accompanied by self thought, research and further readings.

Happy Reading!
